A LETTER TO BARON BAKER REGARDING HIS DEFENCE OF HUHNE AND PRYCE
Sir,
I have felt it necessary to register my disapproval at your recent public attempt to plead that the disgraced Chris Huhne and Vicky Pryce be spared a custodial sentence. Could this merely be a case of demonstrating generosity to a political opponent? Well, whatever the motives, which apparently are related to having previously worked alongside Miss Pryce, I am astonished that a former Conservative Home Secretary has become a born-again advocate of keeping offenders out of prison. This seems something of a volte-face for someone who rarely spoke up for any previous convicted criminals on your ‘watch’.
What particularly concerns me [and many others besides] is how the political establishment were only too keen to see the SUSPECTED, UN-CONVICTED looters and rioters of August 2011 remanded into immediate custody while the very same political establishment are less agreeable to CONVICTED criminals drawn from their own ranks being ‘awarded’ a custodial sentence. This only serves to confirm the belief among the disenchanted many that Britain is inded a sick society [to quote Mr Cameron] in which the Westminster set will move Heaven and earth to keep fellow members of the bourgeoisie from enduring prison. One can only draw the conclusion that prison is intended only for young black and white men and women, and that the middle class white collar criminals ought to be spared the degradations of ‘doing bird’ with the hoi polloi.
If such thoughts are indeed prevalent amongst the political class, then they confirm Nietszche’s theory of the Supermen, that such a higher class of human species are not only destined for greatness and high office, but when they are naughty, they must be championed by their peers in a desperate attempt to keep them from the apparent torture of enforced captivity with the riff-raff.
I had to laugh at Kelvin MacKenzie who in the autumn of 2011 described the looters and rioters on ‘Pienaar’s Politics’ as “scum.” This may indeed be an accurate description, but surely any white-collar fraudster or offender who seeks to pervert the course of justice is equally worthy of such an epithet.
What most people lose sight of in this whole melodrama involving Chris and Vicky is that he was a serial perpetrator of speeding. Speeding is dangerous driving. A car after all is a life-threatening weapon if it is placed in the wrong hands, or indeed if the wrong person is at the steering wheel. Mr Huhne’s blatant disregard for the gravity of speeding, and by association dangerous driving, is an affront to the many hundreds or thousands of people in Britain and even beyond whose lives have been wrecked by dangerous driving and speeding. Anybody hearing your eloquent defence of Miss Pryce would be forgiven for being appalled that you and almost every other media mouthpiece has suffered from collective amnesia about the fact that this whole episode owes its origins to serial speeding from Chris Huhne, a man who ought to know better, but who as a former shadow Home Office spokesman lamentably does not appear to practice what he preaches.
I invite you to comment on why you presented yourself as the defender of middle-class, middle-aged offenders which only reinforces the public perception in some quarters that it is one rule for one, and one rule for others.

BRITAIN’S IMMIGRATION INSANITY:
Immigration to Britain needs to be drastically curtailed. This is not for race reasons, but purely for economic motives. It isn’t even fair on the ethnic and immigrant communities of the UK to allow more immigration. It is scarcely in their economic interests especially when some of them claim to be economically deprived and marginalised. To allow more migration to Britain is a prime case of shooting oneself in the foot. Until that happy day when there is full employment in the UK and there are no waiting lists for healthcare provision, it should remain illogical to import extra people who will simply increase the burdens of the state. If you have a house with limited room for many other inhabitants, you would not permit more people to occupy your property. By the same token, Britain is a land of limited, finite resources, and it simply beggars belief that liberal, soft touch Britain allows herself to become a haven for all international hard luck stories. Of course such sentiments will not sit well with the idealists who wish for Britain to be a multi-cultural Utopia. Well, the rest of us live in the real world and cannot see the economic practicality of such abstract nonsense. Mind you, for those who are ‘asylum seekers’, if it is an asylum that they seek, then perhaps they have come to the right place! On a more serious note, I do envisage Enoch Powell’s terrifying vision being realised post-2014 when a depressing influx of Bulgarians and Romanians will come to our shores. Will they add value to the UK or add to the nation’s woes? Regrettably I predict outbreaks of strife as a consequence.  I do believe that the UK is “busily engaged in heaping up its own funeral pyre” and I do foresee “rivers of blood”. The notion that any immigrants will be asked to leave if they have not found employment within three months of entry is a flight of fancy. The human rights do-gooders will move heaven and earth to keep the large families in Britain. Once they arrive, it will be a case of trying to lock the stable door after the horse has bolted. [Please also observe the website www.migrationwatchuk.org]

OSCAR PISTORIUS IS PISSING-ON-US
The late Joe Strummer once sang back in 1982 that “murder is a crime unless it is done by a policeman”. Thirty years on and it is evident that murder is a crime unless it is committed by a celebrity. Of course I am aware of the premise that all are innocent unless and until proven guilty. God knows the scene is now set for Oscar Pistorius to be “found innocent” of murder. Clearly in South Africa it is perfectly permissible to take a firearm and pump four shots at point blank range at an ‘intruder’ who has taken refuge behind a shower. Poor South Africa, a land that shamed itself for several decades with its prosecution of the abominable apaartheid laws has now sank to new depths. Never mind the murderous assault on Steve Biko in September 1977. Never mind the massacre at Soweto the year before. Never mind the massacre at Sharpeville in 1960. Never mind the prolonged incarceration of Nelson Mandela and other leading ANC activists. This granting of bail to Oscar Pistorius by the magistrate Desmond Nair is an atrocity.
One is reminded of the summing up by the judge in the Jeremy Thorpe trial back in early 1979 when the judge did everything he could, short of pronouncing an innocent verdict himself, to discredit the case for the prosecution and ensure that the disgraced Thorpe should walk free, after his apparent complicity in the murder of a former associate, the homosexual Norman Scott. The poor old jury were left with little choice but to acquit Mr Thorpe. This travesty was expertly lampooned by Peter Cook, performing live at the Secret Policeman’s Ball, which can be found on YouTube where Cook parodies a judge who in his summing up makes a less than subtle defence of the defendant. It seems to me that the magistrate Desmond Nair came close to plumbing such depths in the Oscar Pistorius bail hearing.
I guess that Friedrich Nietzsche was correct in stating the theory of the Superman, a better breed of people who are destined for greatness and who are a cut above the hoi polloi. Well, the flame of fascism was obviously not extinguished in the 1940s as we had hoped but is still burning bright today in this world. It appears that any celebrity is above the law and fireproof against the normal prosecution of the law as inflicted upon the rest of the great unwashed.
If celebrities are to be spared prison time and again, can we please at least construct a golden jail where the rich and famous can languish and be pampered?
Seriously though, how the hell can someone who is a murder suspect be granted bail? Oh come on. He is a murder suspect. I repeat – a muder suspect. Bail? Is this a joke? It’s certainly another bullet in the Steenkamp family. Is poor Reeva to be denied justice? To suggest that the prosecution is flawed because of the inappropriate choice of detective is in itself a smokescreen, designed to distract the gullible populace from the burning issue which is whether Pistorius, who appears to have psychopathic tendencies, is a murderer. 
Oh South Africa, you are on trial here, and the early signs are not good, neither for you nor for the concept of fair play or justice.
Well I am hopping mad that Pistorius has been spared custody before his trial. It does appear that heaven and earth are moved to keep high profile, rich people away from prison, which is presumably reserved only for the poor. Never has the phrase ‘one rule for one, and one rule for another’ seemed so starkly apparent. I guess that the bottom line is that Oscar Pistorius, like all other celebrities, is a multi-national corporation, and his PLC will do everything in their financial power [and beyond] to preserve their golden goose. Money talks, and in South Africa it has screamed at the legal system. Reeva Steenkamp was almost certainly murdered. Her killer will probably escape a jail sentence. Justice is a sick joke. I am going to go and puke.

UK LAW IS ILL AND GETTING SOFTER
I don’t quite understand why the Conservative-dominated government [of all people] is being so compassionate to the Gary Mackinnon character who hacked into the US Defence computers. [Obviously US Intelligence is once again not very intelligent at all]. Imagine if someone from Afghanistan, Iraq, Libya, or Pakistan had hacked into the Ministry of Defence’s computers, would the UK be so forgiving then? The guy may well have Aspergers Syndrome, but it seems that anybody who threatens to kill themselves if they are detained, extradited or prosecuted is making an ass of our flawed law. The time will come when mass murderers and pedophiles will be acquitted ‘on compassionate grounds’ because they have Aspergers and would threaten to commit suicide if they are imprisoned. The UK law is fertile ground for clever-dick solicitors who ensure that their naughty clients escape justice. Pathetic.

MARGARET MORON: A COWARD
I am disgusted that the disgraced former MP Margaret Moran was able to escape prison on Friday the 14th of December when a team of so-called experts [or softies more likely] decreed that Moran was too doo-lally to enter a plea. This is a sickening example of a feeble society where nobody is willing to accept responsibility for anything. When our political superiors lack the integrity to put their hands up and admit their own wrongdoing and have the courage to face the consequences, like the rest of us poor bastards, then this country is finished. No wonder, the yoof go looting, when they see the middle-class law-makers deteriorate into white-collar law-breakers. The trouble with the actress, Margaret Moron, is that having been a legislator [and by implication, a parliamentary law-maker], she knows how the system works, and is therefore ideally placed to work the system in her cowardly favour. She is one of many bourgeois villains who appear to be too ill to stand trial but who were in perfectly rude health to commit crime in the first place. Chirac in France and Mubarak in Egypt are but two recent examples of folk ‘doing a Petain’ and faking ill health in order to achieve leniency. There should be a re-trial. Otherwise British justice is a sick joke. As someone who broke the law many yeasr ago, I had to take my punishment on the chin. It would be good if other high-ranking hypocrites accepted blame too and took responsibility for their actions, like the rest of us plebs. To thwart justice and cling onto their pampered lifestyle sends out a terrible signal to the rest of the society. I believe that the expression that springs to mind is: “one rule for them; one rule for the rest of us”. Well, I am ****ing livid about you Margaret Moron.

BBC Hypocrisy?

Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls,
Permit me to share the following information with you. I have previously worked for a Belfast taxi firm and as a consequence I had access to literally thousands of taxi bookings. This item refers to bookings that were made in the years immediately preceding August 2009, starting circa the beginning of 2007. Unless I am mistaken, the BBC in every urban centre in the UK in which it has premises and staff, constantly provide taxis for some employees and also for many guests in their studios. Such taxis are euphemistically described as “on account.” This means that such fares are not paid by the actual passenger, but are charged to the BBC. Ultimately, such taxi journeys are being funded by the Licence Fee-payer. On a scale of one to ten, just how acceptable do you think that it is that the hard-pressed Licence Fee-payer is subsidising a multitude of taxi journeys every day in urban centres throughout the Disunited Queendom? A fair fare? Surely not?
However, what lends a degree of farce, not to mention hypocrisy, to the proceedings is that during the very time period when the expenses of politicians were brought into sharp focus by the media, including the BBC, we discover that BBC personnel and their high-profile guests [many of whom are/were wealthy celebrities] were creaming free taxi journeys off the public purse!
It gets worse, or funnier, depending upon your sense of humour. When I liaised with the nice boys and girls at the News Of The World about such shenanigans in August 2009, the BBC in Belfast summoned two ‘investigators’ on the BBC payroll to fly over from the north of England to threaten me with possible charges of harrassment against BBC staff. Frankly speaking, my activities were not quite in the top drawer of espionage or subversive sabotage, which the two gents [former gendarmes] readily conceded. Therefore, no charges were forthcoming in the event, though the NOTW still published details from my findings. What this episode demonstrates is that the BBC and other media vehicles would not flinch at exposing the bonus and expenses culture of others, but God have mercy on anyone who dared to reveal that this same broadcasting giant also has its hands filthy with the same rotten endeavours.
Ask yourselves the following questions:
1. Why should BBC staff be permitted [on occasions] to travel to and from work in an all-expenses paid taxi when the rest of the populace have to pay for their journeys to and from work?
2. Why should guests of the BBC who may have been invited for interviews [frequently wealthy guests into the 'bargain'] be permitted free taxis paid out of the public purse when the rest of us suckers have to pay for travel to job interviews or medical appointments?
3. Gordon Brown and David Cameron ordered their Members of Parliament to repay their extravagant expenses. What do you reckon is the likelihood that the BBC and its personnel will have the integrity to re-pay the vast mountain of free taxis that they have accrued, funded by the Licence Fee-payers?
Okay, without further ado, feel free to browse through the enclosed hall of shame of current and former BBC employees who booked taxis “on account” in Northern Ireland [predominantly but not exclusively in the Greater Belfast area]. As a disclaimer [your Honour], it is only fair to point out that some of the listed people who have taken Joe Public for a ride may have only taken one taxi journey. Therefore, there is much variation in the volume of taxis ordered “on account” by the individuals below. Secondly, as the listed information only covers a period of two and a half years in but one locality in the UK, the mind boggles at the sheer numbers of staff and guests who have taken the Licence Fee-payer for a ride over the last decade and beyond. We are talking about the tip of a gargantuan iceberg here. Personally, I regard it as obscenely scandalous, but hey, you are welcome to your own thoughts.
Oh and penultimately, I have not fabricated any of the information. I am not in the business of constructing fantasy statistics. I also do not have a grudge against the BBC. I merely have a grudge against the agents of hypocrisy. After all, the bonus and perks culture extends way beyond Auntie Beeb or Westminster village. Many banks such as the Ulster Bank, the Bank of Ireland, and First Trust have in the past paid for staff taxis out of bank funds, which were the product of their members’ investments. [That, one might say, is a story for another day]. Mind you, maybe Michael Corleone was correct in ‘The Godfather Part II’ when he stated to the senator that “we are all part of the same hypocrisy.”
Oh and finally, if you delude yourself that this blog piece is a total work of fiction, then take yourself off to the nearest BBC studio or building and ask the passengers who alight from each taxi if they have paid for the fare. Better still, ask the cab driver if he received a cash payment or whether his company is charging the BBC [i.e. the Licence Fee-payer] for the travel costs. Some of the passengers are elected politicians. Do you think that they are suddenly paying their way, like the rest of us? Do you truly think that “we are all in it together?” Oh don’t let me arouse you from your complacent slumber!

MEAN-SPIRITED MINIMUM WAGE EMPLOYERS

Please allow me to briefly introduce myself. I graduated with an M.A. in European Studies from the University of Bradford in 1993, having previously earned a BSc. 2i (Honours), 3 ‘A’ Levels and 10 ‘O’ Levels. I’ve now reached my ‘forties and I find myself on the post-credit crunch scrapheap. I’m now employed by the government as a professional jobseeker and ‘benefits scrounger’. This was not how it was meant to be.
However, having engaged in many fruitless forays into the sphere of futile job searches as well as dipping my toes in some dreadful minimum wage jobs in call centres, taking stick from people who earn more in an hour than I earn in a day, I have come to realise that employers who pay the bare minimum frequently recruit suckers who quickly deteriorate into doing the bare minimum. What’s the old saying? Pay peanuts and you’ll get a monkey. Besides, the stingy employers who pay the absolute legal minimum that they can get away with are actually considerably unattractive for any self-respecting ‘workshy layabout’. Now let me explain why.
Well, speaking as a ‘benefits scrounger’ and a ‘workshy layabout’, let me educate thee with the following statistics which clearly question the logic of rising at six or seven in the morning and then selling one’s labour at a cost of a pitiful £1 an hour.
My jobseeker’s allowance is £67.50 per week and my housing benefit totals £86.69 per week.
My total ‘state income’ is therefore *£154.19 per week*.
Now, children, if the minimum wage is £5.93, let’s say £6 per hour, and one works typically a 37.5 hours week, consider the following: The weekly wage is 37.5 hours x £6 per hour = £225. However, once National Insurance and travel expenses have been deducted, one could conceivably be looking at *£195*.
***This means that I would be working 37.5 hours for an extra £40 per week. Ultimately this amounts to selling one’s labour at a staggeringly awful £1 per hour. Never have benefits seemed so attractive and the prospect of working for a bare, unacceptable minimum seemed so ludicrous. Now that you can see in obvious mathematical terms, the sheer nonsense of the minimum wage, let’s proceed to name and shame the mean-spirited employers who offer miserly wages to the nation’s underclass jobseekers. I have generously refrained from exposing the misers who pay £6 an hour. There are plenty of them, and they know who they are. In the first instance, I have focused on the firms that cannot even be bothered to take their employees’ wages up to the £6 threshold. Many of the named employers demand much of their staff. However they give an absolute bare minimum in return which is deeply disrespectful, insulting, and totally unfair.
These named employers are the very worst in exploiting workers. How many of these business owners live in inner-city high-rise flats? None. Oh no, they can afford a nice, big house in suburbia, foreign holidays, even foreign properties, probably more than one car, nice schools for their spoilt offspring, and pamper themselves in retail therapy trips to the shops. Their opulent lifestyle is conditioned by their refusal to pay good wages to their hard-working staff. Oh yes, the minimum wage is perfectly legal. However, is it not legalised theft?
At a time when the Northern Irish MLAs have commissioned a costly review body to examine their pay which will almost certainly result in recommendations for increased salaries, who is going to speak up for the low-paid? Our politicians? Unlikely. Could it be that a fairer re-distribution of wealth places too many people on the same footing and this then undermines the inflated sense of status that middle-class politicians and employers like to cling to. Oh, and the word employers, let’s consider it. To employ means to use. I think that the enclosed list is indeed a list of exploitative users. Employers is a misleadingly polite spin on their role.
